Huatulco Hotels and Accommodations

Each hotel area caters to a different style and budget (map details)
Quick Jump Menu:

There are 3 hotel areas in Huatulco. Downtown accomodations are cheaper, have few amenities, and mostly cater to locals and backpackers who enjoy the charm and activity of a Mexican Pueblo. Hotels on Tangolunda Bay are the most luxurious, and where all the all-inclusive package buyers go. Accomodations around Santa Cruz Bay are mainly mid-range beach hotels. Budget Town Hotels & Mid-Range

Most of the cheaper accommodations are located downtown in La Crucecita, around 10 minute walk to the closest beach.

For honeymooners who want to avoid the "mass-market tourism" of Tangolunda Bay but still want a very special hotel, consider the Agua Azul La Villa Bed & Breakfast. With only 8 mediteranean-style, gazebo-roofed casitas snuggled into the hillside above Conejos Bay, you won't find more intimate a place. The common area is charming and welcoming, and hosts an ample Continental breakfast each morning with Canadian owners Brooke & Rick Gazer. A small, quiet beach is 3 minutes away walking. The charming, two-tiered pool and waterfall in the back garden is ringed by flowering foliage and offer a spectacular view. $90 - $110.

High-End and Luxury Hotels

Tangolunda shoreline and its five luxury hotels. (enlarge)

Five luxury hotels spread along the

Tangolunda shoreline. All have top-service and tropical-style facilities, including pools, live music and countless sport facilities. Be aware that there is no night-life on the Tangolunda Bay outside of hotels, few real shops and all restaurants are part of hotels and tend to be pricey and not always good. Except if you intend to spend the whole trip at the beach in front of your hotel, you may want to avoid buying an all-inclusive package.

The Las Brisas (ex-Club Med) dominates the western bay, whereas the smaller Barcelo Hotel and Zaachila stand side by side on the bay.

One of the first hotels in Tangolunda Bay, the Camino Real Zaashila spreads gracefully on a secluded sandy beach. It is a family favorite thank to its calm water, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The white stucco building has a Mediterranean feel, and many rooms each have their own sizable dipping pool and ocean-view balcony or terrace. If this is not enough, the main pool is of gigantic proportion and surrounded by tropical gardens, and has armchairs built into the shallow edges. $200+.

A sprawling complex on the west side of the bay, covering 50 acres of exotic vegetation including 3 private beaches, the Las Brisas is the most easily identifiable hotel of Huatulco. Sports five on-site themed restaurants, including a Marrakech-inspired Casbah, where diners sit at low-slung tables. $200+.

Facilities: Business center, car rental, massage, parking, restaurants, 5 outdoor pools , cable TV, Health club, Tennis courts. Golf course nearby.

Note: During 2003, the Las Brisas hotel is under heavy remodeling. We strongly recommend you to consider another hotel while things settle.

The Magnihotel is the cheapest of the five resort hotel, and has the largest suite. The catch is that you'll have to take a shuttle (or walk 10 minutes) to get to the beach. The beauty of the surrounding jungle provides a lush backdrop of tropical greenery may also compensate for its lack of beachfront.

Bahia de Tangolunda, Huatulco. Tel: ++52 (958) 58 10044. magnihotel@huatulco.net.mx.

With only 27 rooms, the Quinta Real Hotel is a more intimate choice. With its elegantly furnished stone-pillared rooms suffused with golden light, and private jacuzzi or pool suites with view over the bay, the hotel is particularely popular with honeymooners. The open-air lobby and its somptuous tiered pool and fountains has an bewitching Arabian feel. This Hotel is not on the beach neither, but closer than the Magnihotel.
